In describing the work in this exhibition John says “I want to share my joy and enthusiasm of the landscape, by using those elements that inspire me, to create entirely new images and forms. For me, the inspiration comes from the relationship that man has to the landscape, in the way that roads and highways and other structures work with the landscape rather than trying to compete against it, as if these human forms acknowledge the natural superiority of the land.”

John distils these natural and man-made forms into his very own brand of abstraction. He constructs complex, sculptural canvases that are sprayed with acrylic paints, combining spontaneous, painterly techniques with his trademark stripes and geometric shapes that will astound you with their precision. Looking at his work, it is clear that John cares as deeply about the quality of his finished work as he does about accurately interpreting the beautiful Lake District landscape that daily inspires him to create his unique works of art.
